October is birthday month around here, and since our birthdays are only a week apart, we get to combine celebrations! We were throwing around a few ideas of how to celebrate this year; bed and breakfasts, quick trip to Mexico, each choosing a cool gift...we didn't really love any of those ideas, so we decided to finally make use of the tent we got for our wedding! We were so excited. The week before we could barely think about anything else. I hadn't been camping since I was 8 or 9 so I was mostly excited but also a little nervous for bears...haha. spoiler alert, there were none ;)
We headed up to Bear Canyon Lake on Friday after I got home from work. There was a huge accident on the freeway, and they closed the roads for about 4 hours, then we got lost for a bit, so we didn't end up setting up camp until about 2:30am. Using the car lights to watch Landon set up the tent will forever be a favorite memory...haha. So manly.
What we woke up to! It had gotten pretty cold. Landon talks in his sleep a lot, and that night he had gotten up saying "burrr"
We didn't realize how small our tent was until we set it up. It's about 7 x 4 1/2 feet. We have a queen sized air mattress, so it was a tiiiiight squeeze. But still cozy.
Cutest bed head.
Couldn't resist a 'senior picture' opportunity.
-thinking I caught something! But really only getting the line stuck on a log-
After breakfast, all Landon wanted to do was fish and try and catch something to eat for dinner. We fished for hours and didn't get anything.
Time for smore's and hotdogs. I'm not the best at gathering firewood
I am the smore queen. Hands down my favorite part of camping ;)
Seriously, I'll camp anywhere as long as we have smore's
We decided to try fishing one more time before we went back home. We fished and fished for hours, and the fish kept biting and taking all of the bait without getting hooked. It was hilarious. Poor Landon was getting so frustrated.
He finally caught one!
He could barely hold onto it though. That fish was flopping all over the place.
Proud of himself for skinning and gutting it
I caught one too!! The first fish I ever caught. Reeling it in was so exciting. I wasn't planning on keeping mine, I just wanted to catch and release...but we ended up accidentally killing it, so we took it home and Landon even gutted and cooked it that night. It was actually pretty delicious, coming from someone who hates fish.
The big winner.
After leaving we pulled over to check out the Mogollum Rim or as we call it, the Mongolian Rim.
I might have yelled at him before these were taken to stop getting so close to the edge....
Birthday weekend was a success! We're having camping withdrawals. The weather was amazing, and it was so nice to wake up and not have anything to do but hang out. We don't get to hang out and relax much anymore because Lando is busy studying. The week before we left, all he did was catch up on homework and quizzes because he'd be missing two days. We didn't really talk or see each other that week so getting two days of just Millie and Landon time was muy perfecto.
26 is off to a good start.
I just love your blog! I'm so glad you started one :)
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me want to go camping!!! It looks so pretty there.
Looks like fun! I love camping once everything is all set up and I can relax. The preparations and packing is so exhausting. oh wait I have four kids so when we go anywhere it is exhausting. Ha! Love your blog!
