we took a mini stay-cation to san diego this past weekend, and it was glorious! landon and i are creatures of habit. so usually when he gets off work, we eat dinner, watch a movie and go to sleep. which is totally fun for us, and something we never get sick of, but it was nice to get out of town and switch things up.
since lando had to work on the 4th and 5th of july, we couldn't leave until saturday afternoon.
our first stop was fin's for some amaze-balls mexican food, then we headed on over to the san diego temple to do a session, which was the perfect way to kick start our weekend.
per our brother in law's recommendation we went to explore old town for the night. it was pretty cool, we were still full from fin's so we didn't eat at any of the mexican restaurants, but they all looked and smelled wonderful.
^ someone gets sick of my incessant picture taking^
i'm a dessert person, so no matter how full i am, i ALWAYS have room for dessert. the hunt for ice cream was on. we found this little shop that had home-made ice cream and waffle cones. heaven.
we didn't get to watch any fireworks on the 4th, so landon planned that we would go to mission beach across the street from sea world, and watch the ones they do on saturday nights :)
we had a few hours to kill before the show, so we stopped at the boardwalk where they had a mini amusement park.
they had this ropes course that he was dying to try. i finally gave in ;) let it be known that i TRIED really hard to be brave and do it with him. i got all hooked up and even walked across some planks...but then the fear and reality set in and i had to get down. fear sweats and tears were coming in fast.
he loved it. he could walk across most of the obstacles without any hands and people beneath him were cheering him on and asking how long he'd been doing this. it was hilarious, and he loved the attention!
the next day was beach day! oh how i love the beach. the weather could not have been more perfect. clear skies and burning sun.
we bought a boogie board just for this trip and he couldn't wait to try it out.
we were too shy to ask any beach goers to take our picture, so here is one of many failed attempts at a self timed one! :)
before we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner we stopped at la jolla cove and wandered around. the views were pretty great, and we saw lots of seals swimming around.
we went back to old town for dinner and ate at jack and giulios.
it.was.amazing.
^best bruschetta we've ever had^
i got the tortelli and he got the lasagna. we ended up switching halfway because i liked the lasagna better. but they were both to die for. can't wait to go back!
we came back home with some pretty bad sun burns, but they were worth it. we love san diego.
How FUN!!!
