The next day we started our day off at the best breakfast place in California. It's Country Family Kitchen, and we actually ate here 2 years ago when we first met. Besides the delicious food, that's just another reason to love it.
Beach day! Not so much. It was storming like crazy, which was a bit of a bummer since our plan was to spend all day at the beach on Saturday boogie boarding because it's awesome and free. We decided to brave it out and park and walk down to the beach in San Clemente, and everyone we passed told us "bad beach day" "not worth it" but Landon grabbed his board and was determined to try it out. There was so much lightening and the beach was completely empty. Nobody was in the ocean which made him feel a little uneasy so we tried to wait it out under some tents we found. The storm was so bad, they cancelled a beach event thing for the first time in 26 years (which is why there were so many empty tents everywhere) We sat under there for awhile trying to figure out what to do next, since our options were so limited because of the rain and our budget.
Eventually we wound up at the mall, which was still fun. We ordered Vietnamese food, window shopped and shared the best ice cream cone we both ever had.
We booked our last night at The Inn in San Clemente, not really knowing what to expect because we had booked it last minute that morning for like 120$! We couldn't find anything within our budget in San Diego, so we settled for San Clemente and we were pleasantly surprised! It was the sweetest Inn, and very cozy, it was exactly what we needed. It had restaurants everywhere, the beach was down the road and the innkeepers were so nice and gladly offered us their boogie boards to use if we wanted. We'll definitely stay there again.
The sun wasn't out but the rain was gone so we tried the beach one more time.
Yay! Too bad it was freaking freezing, I couldn't go in past my knees.
He stayed in the water til sundown and had a blast.
For dinner we found a local Hawaiian restaurant/bar. They served us free edamame to start and we were hooked immediately.
We shared the kahlua pork and chicken katsu with some pineapple teriyaki chicken on the side. It was incredible, but the verdict was not as incredible as Moki's in Mesa.
The next day it was sunny and warm and the perfect conditions for our snorkel tour I booked us!!! I was so worried it was going to get rained out, the sun gods were on our side that morning.
I booked us a leopard shark snorkel tour on Groupon with Everyday California, and they were a lot of fun and very down to earth, plus it was 50% off the original price. HOLLA
He was the only one who didn't rent a wet suit, even though they were highly recommended because the water is about 60 degrees and floating in water that cold will suck heat from you. But he assured me he didn't need it (I think he just didn't want to fork over the 10$ for one)
We were able to see tons of leopard sharks, a baby stingray and seals! The seals made me nervous because I know those are shark food, but the tour guide reassured me there aren't enough of them there to attract any sharks...thankfully.
We bought a waterproof phone case so we could get some awesome pictures, but sadly it didn't work as will underwater as we hoped.
Next up was boogie boarding! FINALLY. The ocean was a little too calm though and there were barely any waves. We waited in the freezing water for hours to ride some waves and we probably rode 3 total.
This was taken about 2 minutes before it started pouring rain. The storm was back, so we called it a day and headed to our favorite restaurant in San Diego! FINS! I ordered the chicken taquesos and Landon get the surf and turf burrito, same old, same old but still unbelievably delicious.
The rain wasn't going to clear up anytime soon so it was time to head home. I love love love the rain but not when it ruins my beach vacations. Oh well! California desperately needed the rain so I guess I'm okay with it.
